What people run on it
Creators and multistream
Go live from OBS or any RTMP encoder, embed the player on your site and forward the same signal to other platforms at once.
24/7 sources
IP cameras, radio and TV encoders: we pull RTSP, RTMP or HLS around the clock and retry when a source drops. Audio-only streams work too.
Platforms and API
Create streams, keys and embeds from your own product through the REST API and webhooks. Business adds organization-scoped API keys.
VOD
Upload a video file; we prepare MP4 and HLS for playback and serve it from the same edge network. It counts towards storage and transfer.
Questions
What counts as an ingest hour?
The time a source is live on our origin — pushed by you over RTMP or pulled by us — measured in 30-second slots. Time without incoming audio or video is not counted. Each stream counts separately: two streams live for an hour use two ingest hours. Viewers do not use ingest time; they use transfer.
What happens when I reach a limit?
Free and Creator: new streams cannot start until the billing period ends or you upgrade; there is never a charge on top of the plan. Pro and Business: running past the ingest-time or transfer limit does not stop your streams — usage above the limits is billed at the overage rates shown on the plan. Usage counters are refreshed several times a day, so a limit can take effect a few hours after it is crossed.
How does the ingest bitrate cap work?
The cap applies to the audio and video you send: 4 Mbit/s on Free, 6 Mbit/s on Creator, 6 Mbit/s on Pro, 8 Mbit/s on Business, none on Enterprise. We look at the average over 30 seconds, so keyframe bursts are fine. A stream that stays more than 10% above the cap for about 15 seconds is disconnected with the error bitrate_limit_exceeded — lower the encoder bitrate and go live again.
Do you transcode live streams into multiple qualities?
No. Viewers receive the quality your encoder sends, delivered through our edge network. Set the encoder for the audience you expect.
Can I change plans later?
Yes, in the console under Billing. Upgrades take effect right away; the difference is prorated on the next invoice.
